Agreed. It's still a good idea to read the Wisdom books though. I just tend to find the stuff in Psalms and Proverbs a little obvious though (to me). I like Ecclesiastes a lot.

SO the story goes, "SONG of Solomon" - was written when Solomon was YOUNG, full of hope, and wild enthusiasm.

Then "Proverbs" - and he's middle aged, loaded with responsibility, and practical experience, and gives GOOD advice.

But then Ecclesiastics - He's Old, the enthusiasm is Gone, and now it's all "Vanity" nothing new under the sun - a beautiful girl becomes an old hag, - a beautiful flower withers into nothing, Treasures rust away, and "Vast plans" degenerate into Half-Vast dissapointments.

I read an article a LONG time ago that said: A person gets OLD - the minute that they realize that NOTHING WONDERFUL will happen tomorrow.

That's where Solomon with all his wisdom (and manifold dissipations) wound up - Vanity, Vanity, ALL is Vanity.

But there's still the "Blessed hope" waiting when Life is done.

Well I do really like the Song of Songs as well. I'll get back to you on this, I need some time to consider what you posted.

I don't know of course no one could without knowing Solomon personally but it seems to me that Solomon's enthusiasm for life paralleled his walk with the Lord. When he was young he was passionate about building the temple and about doing God's thing God's way. As he got older and richer he took many foreign wives built temples for their gods and may in fact have worshiped there, focused at least in part on fulfilling the lust of his flesh and on politics and his joy dwindled.

Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. Matthew 25:40 & 45
